Planning a Wedding in the City

London

There’s something very special about planning a wedding in the city. Whether you were born and raised in London, or it holds a certain significance, choosing to get married in one of the world’s most iconic capitals is always a sophisticated choice.

We’ve spent years designing bespoke weddings in the heart of London, and while a city wedding offers endless opportunity, it also comes with its own set of considerations. Here’s what we’ve learned, and what you should think about when planning your big day in the capital.

Why London?

London is a wedding planner’s dream due to the variety, the history, the architecture, it goes on. We think that it caters to every vision, classic and sophisticated, edgy and cool, or extravagantly themed, there is something for everyone here.

Looking at your wedding practically, London is a great choice due to easy transport links for guests arriving from across the UK or abroad. You’re also spoilt for choice when it comes to suppliers, we have worked with world-class florists and caterers, exceptional photographers, musicians and entertainers. Organising a bespoke wedding in London takes experience and requires planners to remain calm under pressure!

Finding the Right Venue

With so many spaces available, choosing a venue is usually the first big decision. We always start by narrowing it down based on guest numbers, style preferences, and the format of the day. Do you want a ceremony and reception in the same place? Are you planning a religious service elsewhere? Do you need space for certain cultural traditions or a multi-day celebration?

Some of our favourite city venues include:

  • The Natural History Museum - iconic, dramatic, and perfect for weddings with real impact.

  • 8 Northumberland Avenue - just moments from Trafalgar Square, this grand and versatile venue combines historic charm with modern technology, making it ideal for glamorous city weddings. Read more about the venue here.

  • The Wallace Collection - beautifully designed venue in central London, offering the perfect backdrop for the most stunning weddings in town.

  • The V&A – timeless, artistic,  and a fabulous option for those looking for a venue that boasts decadence and style in abundance.

Availability is often limited, especially for weekends and summer dates, so flexibility and early planning are key.

Planning the Practicalities

Planning a wedding in the city means thinking carefully about logistics. Transport, parking, loading access for suppliers, accommodation for guests - it all needs to be considered and well-communicated.

Our team creates detailed schedules, we liaise with venues and transport companies, and ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. We’re also on hand to assist guests on the day, making sure they feel looked after.

Where possible, we recommend securing a block booking of nearby hotel rooms and offering clear transport options (especially for older guests or those unfamiliar with London). If you’re using multiple venues, arranging coach transfers or hiring classic black cabs for guests can also add a smart London touch.

Style and Atmosphere

A city wedding often calls for a slightly more polished aesthetic - something that complements the chosen venue without feeling overly formal. That doesn’t mean it can’t be personal or creative, but the styling should feel considered. We love to deep dive into a creative brief and create exciting and innovative styling concepts.

For larger weddings, it’s about creating moments such as a striking entrance, a breathtaking floral installation, and a wow-factor tablescape. Remember lighting is key, especially if the ceremony runs into the evening. We work with world class production suppliers to design beautiful and atmospheric areas both inside and outside your venue.

Catering and Entertainment

London’s catering scene is among the best in the world. You can take your pick from Michelin-trained chefs offering fine dining, to more relaxed food stations with a variety of cuisines. For a large guest list, efficiency matters just as much as flavour! Trusted caterers ensure service is slick, hot food arrives as it should, and dietary needs are well managed.

When it comes to entertainment, ideally think beyond the band or DJ and consider live performers, surprise choirs or dance acts. In a large venue you have the space and flexibility to be imaginative.

Why Work With a Planner

Quite simply, planning a bespoke city wedding is not a one-person job, especially if you are a bride or groom. With venue negotiations and supplier management, plus styling, logistics and timelines, a professional planner takes the pressure off and allows you to actually enjoy the day.

At Neon Touch Events, every wedding we work on is different, and that’s exactly how we like it. We take the time to really delve into your vision and bring it to life with style, attention to detail, and a few added extras to elevate your wedding day, making it the most beautiful life event.
